2016 Alumni Return to WinterStorm Ten Years On

24/03/2026

This year WinterStorm, Scotland's classic rock festival, is celebrating ten years of its weekends by the sea in the town of Troon on the west coast of Scotland.

'StormForce X, between 26th and 28th November, will follow the recipe that has worked so far with a mix of old school NWOBHM, a large dollop of melodic AOR, a bit of spicy blues rock, stirring in some Prog and finished with a unique blend of bands previously unheard and some welcome returning favourites.

All in all, we hope that the tenth weekend will be a celebration of a wonderful decade of live music in Ayrshire and should act as an appropriate finale for this part of the WinterStorm story.

For the first reveal, we've gone all the way back to the very first day of WinterStorm when we opened the doors not truly knowing what we were doing and accepting that we had sold 316 tickets to an audience who knew even less than we did about what to expect!

So for the first announcement we are delighted to welcome back three artistes who all played on that memorable opening day on Friday 25th November 2016...

It won't surprise anyone that you'll be hearing from one of the WinterStorm "house bands", Tygers of Pan Tang, again this year and we make no apologies for having them back for the tenth anniversary. Their energy is everything that we ever want, and they were such a notable part of the NWOBHM movement that shaped WinterStorm, and for many, seeing them back-to-back with Mantis on that opening day, was reason enough for buying the ticket. They were also out first looming crisis when they advised that they were stuck on a traffic jam on the A1 north and wouldn't make their stage time! Those were the days! We remain confident that they'll be here on time for their Saturday set.

Alongside of them again will be our equally, long term buddies, FM. We couldn't sign this chapter off without having them on stage with us. The story of guitarist Jim Kirkpatrick's role in getting WinterStorm off the ground has been repeated ad nauseum and Steve Overland and the boys always raise the roof. We'll be celebrating ten whilst FM will be marking 40 years of their classic release Indiscreet - we can raise a glass or two together then!

Last, but never least, in this triumvirate of 2016 alumni is someone who we always wanted to get back but had given up hope on. Cradle the Rage, was the last album from the band released in 2016 and live performances since being in Troon, limited to "evenings with". However, when we were heard that James was heading back out on the road with Toseland, we knew he had to be a part of our anniversary celebrations and we are delighted that Toseland will once again be hitting the WinterStorm stage and completes the trio of bands from that opening day and night ten years ago.

It sort of squares a circle somehow for us. The fear ahead of that day in 2016 was shared amongst us all and we knew that there were some who were there just to see us fall at the first hurdle! Somehow our complete naivete got us through not just year one but to the point that we can actually look forward to a decade of great memories.

We hope you'll join with us in November, one more time.

Remaining 200 three day tickets go on sale 1st of April - sign up below to receive notifications and ticket link.
