Doors will open at 2pm (possibly 1.30pm) on the Friday and midday on the Saturday although the catering area may be opened earlier. The music is scheduled to end at 11.45pm on both nights with last orders in the main stage bar at 11.30pm.
If, as we expect, the event is sold out there will be no door sales at all. Admission during the weekend is by wristband which will be issued in exchange for your tickets. There are weekend and daily bands as well as a version for under eighteens.
There may be occasional searches but we do tend to trust our ticket holders not to be bringing in quarter bottles of vodka!
There is a really good cloakroom facility run by the Troon RNLI and they will gladly look after your coats, bags and merchandise for a small donation - thdey generated more than £1000 last year! The cloakroom closes at midnight both nights.
There are no cash payments for bar and food and we have succesful used bar tokens in previous years. A similar system will apply this year. Regardless, the bars and catering will be cashless and you can buy tokens at the front reception area. We accept credit and debit card payments when purchasing tokens but genuinely would ask that you purchase your tokens in advance on line to avoid cash useage.
Unused tokens are redeemable until midnight on Saturday 30th November.
Set off the main reception the Concert Hall has a capacity of 850 and is a real gem of an old style theatre. Dated yes but all the better for it. It feels real and personal. There is no downstairs seating at all but a small area for wheelchairs is planned this year and there are nearly 250 seats upstairs. The main bar sits off the hall so it's possible to get a refill mid set and miss nothing.
With the South Beach Sessions Stage line up looking so strong, it is expected to be more popular than ever this year. It's a small room with a limited capacity of 180 overlooking the beach. Literally overlooking the beach! There will be no seating in here this year and the bar has been moved outside to the middle hall. It will be warm and sweaty and loud and feels a bit like an old students' union.
We are looking at having a limited number (circa 20%) of guaranteed access passes available in an advance ballot, if one is required with the rest on a first come first served basis. It is stating the obvious but under no conditions should it be assumed that there is guaranteed access to this area with the ticket purchase! We will ensure that all ticket holders are given advance notice of how we plan to manage the admissions to the Sessions Room.
This is what we see as the middle room and is pretty much there to go to chill, chat and recover your senses. Fully lit, seating, catering, merch and background music only. It's very much an escape room and a great place to meet the bands and other fans.
Also available at the front reception are the WinterStorm reusable plastic glasses. These are deposited for £2 and refundable on departure with your receipt (avoids people stealing bundles of them!) however they are also ideal for getting signed by bands as a momento! We are fully committed once again to reducing single use throughout the weekend.
We have a sponsorship again this year with Fishers Laundry who provide the dressing rooms and stage with high quality towels meaning that we are not buying cheap and dumping after; we have fully compostable plates and cutlery and do not sell plastic bottles of water.
The beach clean - see below - takes place again and we have a number of ideas we are trying to work through to further reduce the impact of the event.
There are two bars again this year. The main bar runs down the side of the main hall and offers all beers, ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks as well as a Pie Stand! The second bar will this year be located in the Walker Hall (the middle room) instead of in the upstairs venue. This increases the capacity for the second stage and makes buying a beer with food easier.
Once again you can be sure of both service, quality and price as The Harbour Bar boys are our partners for the fourth year on the trot. Digital bar signage and our WinterStorm Cabinets in the front are new for this year.
Catering will be run pretty much as it was last year with home made Scottish themed menu items and of course the famous WinterStormer Pies - the stovies seemed to hit the mark along with the chilli and curry! Teas, coffees and soft drinks will also be available. The catering will stay open until 11pm both nights.
At our age (and yes I speak for myself) we need a wee seat or two. The Concert Hall has just under 250 unreserved seats upstairs to watch the event and throughout the corridors and the second hall you will find at least another 200 seats for in between bands.
A pictorial run through of the first three years with the charity single recorded especially for WinterStorm.
There will be free water on tap throughout the weekend from dispensers in both halls. This again reduces the instances of single use water bottles and it's FREE!
WinterStorm and band merchandise will once again be sold in the middle hall area and for those who haven't been before there are NO VIP meet and greets and never will be! We don't need to encourage the bands to mingle they do anyway!
WinterStorm merchandise will go on sale for pre order at the end of the summer and will be mailed out ahead of the event. We cannot afford to over order stock every year so only have limited merch on sale that is not pre-ordered. Card facilities are available for both and and event merch.
Now an annual event the beach clean is scheduled to take place again this year from 10am on the Saturday morning and volunteers will receive a little goody bag and a wee dram for their efforts. Pre registration will be required.
As some of you may have read we are in the process of commissioning an original design ironworked bench for the beach promenade to act as a wee memorial for those that have gone before us. We will be planning an unveil of the bench at some point in the lead up to or during the weekend
We are trying to create a dedicated photo area this year with bands and backdrops and of course our giant six foot deck chair will be back.
There are a lot of things we are currently working on for 2019 so we will keep this page updated as we go along but please if you haven't already make sure you are signed up for the newsletter as that's where all info will go first.
Full details are published about our first aid and security and you will be sent all this information but we do have a full complement of paid and qualified security and first aid and the venue has a defibrilator too.
The guys that make it tick. They will forever be known as the 'StormTroopers and you wont miss them in there bright volunteer shirts. These guys make the event what it is and will do anything they can to help you up to and including spot welding band trailers!
