WinterStorm Rock Weekender
We didn't realise until this morning that it was World Mental Health Day today so this announcement has been brought forward a wee bit but we thought it was worth knocking a page up to mark it.
WinterStorm is about a celebration of classic rock in its various forms and the music is of course its raison d'etre but that has never precluded us from looking at it as part of the bigger wider picture and in that sense our policies and thoughts on reducing single use, in assisting local charities such as the RNLI and sponsoring events such as the Ayrshire Beer Festival or Live@Troon are shaped by looking outwards.
It has always been part of the plan to look at what we can do on the charitable front and whilst we'll continue working with the RNLI in donation all of the cloakroom revenues to their funds this year again we have always wanted to push it a little further and to that end we can at least tease out a wee bit more what the plan is for 2018.
So we will be fundraising for two mental health charities this year - one dementia based and the other youth based. It fits a little with the diversity and age ranges of the bands and audience profiles and we'll be announcing which charities ahead of the event. We are all surrounded by the impacts of mental health issues and we felt this was the most appropriate area for us to work in.
So, rather than just putting collection cans out and selling raffle tickets we thought we'd do something a little different and we can announce that currently, and lead by the wonderful WinterStorm combo Glen White McManus, artistes are donating their voices and instrumentation to the cause and we will be releasing a charity version of "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock n Roll)" alongside WinterStorm 2018.
Chris Glen, the recently married Chris Glen, said,
"The three of us loved the closing set last year and when the idea of releasing a single for charity was put to us we jumped at the idea and we went into the studio to lay down the bass, drums and vocals for the track and we've asked some of our friends involved with WinterStorm for their inputs! It should be a bit of fun and if we can even sell a few it's worth it for the charities involved."
The track was laid down with the help of Liam McCluskey and Brendan Moon at Morsecode Management's studios in Hillington on the outskirts of Glasgow and they'll be overseeing the production and final mix.
There are a lot of logistical hoops to jump through before we can announce all of the whys and wherefores of the release and indeed who the guests are but it will be released on digital format at the very least with all proceeds going to the charity.
We may ask for your vocal support at some point in the proceedings but we'll keep you informed of that as we get there!
So it's the bones of an announcement and one that we were planning on keeping back for a couple of weeks yet until we had the track securely down on tape and all were happy with the progress but with today being World Mental Health Day it seemed appropriate to at least mark it.
We'll keep you up to speed with our progress and plans!
